Hi. I'm a software engineer living in San Francisco. I'm interested in distributed systems, databases, operating systems, programming languages, and security. I'm best known for my PhD work on Raft, a distributed consensus algorithm designed to be easy to understand.
After a few years in industry, I left my previous job and am currently (in January 2021) looking to be self-employed. While I'm pretty confident I can pass an interview with myself, I'm trying to find an idea worth pursuing first. Meanwhile, I'm thinking through and prototyping ideas, and I'm finding plenty of less profitable ways to spend my time.
